Oh, the Connection Places You’ll Go!
Sunday - July 5, 2009We decided to test yesterday’s advice to the National Speakers Association in NSA Speaks Many Twitter Languages. We can already claim one additional attendee for the convention – and we found a “couple” of additional new friends for our own lonely speaking niche.
First we’ll tell you about the additional attendee. We did a search in Search.Twitter.com for the phrase “national speaker.”
Kathy Howe, @SedonaKathy (yes, she does live in Sedona) had posted this message to her followers:
Join REEA. Learn from experts across country. Become a national speaker/trainer. Work with the best.
The REEA is the Real Estate Educators Association, and Kathy just happens to be their President Elect. Think they might have some folks interested in improving their speaking and training skills? Think there might be some National Speakers Association members who’d like to network with Kathy? Um-huh, so did we.
So we replied back to Kathy on Twitter, telling her that the upcoming NSA convention was about to take place in her own backyard (Sedona is just a hop, skip and a jump up the pike from the Desert Ridge Marriot). She wasn’t aware of it – and quickly juggled her schedule to be attend.
The result is pictured at the top of this blog article – so yes, we’d say that the strategy of searching Twitter works like a charm.
Rare Two-Headed Speaker Sighting
We also happened to find a message from Bernie Salazar and Becky Scritchfield when we searched the term “national speakers.“ They are known on Twitter as @NurturPrincipls (have to talk to them about those missing vowels) and their message read:
Making plans for National Speakers Association conference in a few weeks. Excited to meet new professional speakers and seasoned experts.
We were pretty excited to see what looked like another twosome speaking team. So we Twittered back, asking if they indeed were. They wrote back:
So now we won’t be so lonely at the convention. We’ll have a new two-headed friend.
Speaking of two-headed friends, we were able to refer Becky and Bernie to the dynamic duo of Tim and Kris O’Shea, known far and wide on Twitter as @theosheareport. And, oh my gosh, here they are, telling you more about the upcoming convention on this link – The NSA Convention Preview.
See you there, Becky, Bernie, Kris, Tim and Kathy. And the rest of you, too!

Wow! And I am always asking each of my learners “What is your ROI on Social Networking?” …sometimes to blank faces. But, the reality is in the reaching out and expanding our Spheres of Influence. Working the room. Do we ever know when a door will open and our world will change? You changed mine yesterday.
Thanks Michael. I believe one of our REEA members will be getting her NSA designation at this conference. I’m just waiting for confirmation. Her name is Karel Murray. I’ll let you know which day I will be coming down and I will look forward to “working the room” with you.
Thanks Kathy,
Very much fun bumping into you on Twitter – and look forward to seeing you in the 120 degree heat!
Thanks for the mention guys! It’s nice to see that there are others who are as co-dependent as we are.
)
Co-dependent? Where is Sheryl anyway? She normally does my typing for me….. Sheryl!!
hahah! we only had so many twitter characters so we lost some vowels http://www.nurtureprinciples.com
See you at the Convention!
